Squirreled away

Patio Lights

Cygnus, Ursa’s Major and Minor
Cassiopeia and the Big Dipper
Burn cool in the heavens tilting above
This darkened patio thanks to you, so
Furtive, so clever, so industrious
All those buried backyard cache’s studding
A three dimensional mental map, your
Expression impassive, wall eyed, tail like
Smoke from a cigarette burning in an
Ashtray, buffeted plume I would proudly
Display from a whipping aerial back
When cars still had them.  Inefficient use
Of energy in the form of precious
Calories burned and for what exactly
If not to cast me into eternal
Darkness with your rabidly yellowed teeth
Retreating to some high leafy redoubt
Dreaming acorns while ice melts in a glass
On a table next to this chair where I
Sit gazing heavenward connecting feint
Pin pricks into rampaging rodent shapes.
